This is becaus photographic machines have so many options its not only about the dpi but also about px size you can have a 6000x9000@72dpi which should be around 75-80mb file.

Try the trial version to see if it works with your scanner (it puts watermarks on the scans, but at least you can see if it'll work for you). Any advice forthcoming would be appreciated!
